Arrested at 16 for hacking a big 4 bank
Bastien Treptel was always a curious kid who liked figuring out how things worked. So when he got his first computer at 14, he began exploring the cyber world and testing its limits.
At 16, Bastien hacked into one of the Big 4 Banks of Australia and found himself able to access thousands of credit cards. After shouting his friends one too many pizzas, the Federal Police tracked him down and he was arrested.
Having become a convicted criminal at just 16 and seeing how easy it could be for someone with bad intentions to get their hands on highly sensitive information, Bastien decided to use his skills for good.
He decided to dedicate his life to helping individuals and businesses understand cybersecurity and protect themselves and their data.

Bastien founded CTRL:CYBER, a progressive information security firm, protecting businesses from cybersecurity risks. CTRL Group was created to educate and advise businesses on cybersecurity and provide services to help monitor and protect from threats.
In 2021, Bastien sold CTRL group and is now dedicated to inspiring everyone to appreciate security as it becomes an essential part of our lives as we move into a hyper-digitised world.
